Overview
I am pleased to announce the release of Liya Linux v2.5.1, codenamed Mahi.
This release focuses on refinement, usability, and improving the overall first-use and daily experience.
What’s New in v2.5.1
New Official Website
Liya Linux now features a redesigned official website.
- Cleaner and more modern layout
- Improved navigation and clarity
- Better presentation of downloads and project information
The new website better reflects Liya’s design philosophy and improves accessibility for both new and existing users.
Liya Update
Liya Linux now has a 6 month release cycle, but ISO's are rebuilt 3rd of every alternate month to ensure the user does not face any keyring issues. This forum post will be updated with its each corresponding month (Feb = 1, Apr = 2...)
With v2.5.1, Users are requested to run liya_update for updating their system as it first updates keyrings then the system.
Note: If you are on 2.5, please download the liya_update from here and copy it to /usr/local/bin
chmod 755 liya_update && sudo cp liya_update /usr/local/bin
Samba Support Enabled by Default
Samba integration is now enabled by default in the Nemo file manager.
- For Windows® 10 and Greater, Network and Windows shares are discoverable out of the box.
- For Windows® 8.1 and Less, please run
sudo use_smbv1
AI Integration
Liya v2.5.1 "Mahi" includes Newelle, an advanced AI chatbot frontend.
Newellw allows users to directly use AI models in system interface and/or run local LLM's easily. A guide to set up Newelle will be posted soon in our Wiki section.
Liya Welcome Application
The Liya Welcome application has been included to simplify post-install setup.
- Graphics drivers can now be installed directly from the Welcome app
- Hybrid graphics systems (such as Intel + NVIDIA or Intel + AMD) are now handled more reliably.
Unified Package Repository
Liya Linux v2.5.1 “Mahi” features single unified Liya package repository, featuring the bare minumum packages which are required to run Liya. Other packages are outsourced to chaotic-aur and blackarch repositories. This change was felt essential to the long term viability of the distribution.
If you are running v2.4 or lower, please manually intervene and replace liya-v3 (or) liya-v2 with liya in /etc/pacman.conf or run
sudo sed -i "s/liya-v3/liya/g" /etc/pacman.conf
sudo sed -i "s/liya-v2/liya/g" /etc/pacman.conf
