Cinnamon 5.8 Broke Liya, we fixed it!
New Features Introduced In This Release
- Alpana - Alpana is the update tool for Liya, whenever a new version is released, you can type in liya-update in the terminal, it will fetch the latest version of alpana and update your system, it will ask before updating your skel.
- Full 32 bit support - This version of Liya features full support for 32 bit apps.
- Terminal - This isn't any new, but we previously used kitty, which set itself as the default file manager, we changed to GNOME Terminal (not console), this version fixes that htop not launching from the menu bug.
- Quick app launch - This version includes Ulauncher, which blends well with the UI and can be launched by pressing the Ctrl+Space buttons.
- Cinnamon 5.8 support - Updating to cinnamon 5.8 broke the system, this is no longer the case, and cinnamon runs fast
- OS-Autodetect - This is a tool built in the system, if you have another os installed, then Vanilla GRUB will be installed, else, Silent GRUB will be installed.
- Linux-Zen as the default - previously we used Xanmod kernel, but as xanmod removed ebpf, we were unable to run ananicy-cpp, and for our next release (which will probably be in the month of October), we will have a new desktop which supports wayland and android installed out of the box, and a simple tool to configure Waydroid. We were inspired by the waydroid wiki page and NOT by any distribution which uses zen kernel.
NOTE
This is just ment to be a incremental update to Liya 7.0, but cannot be installed via liya-update, because this version had lot of backend changes, mostly related to cinnamon, 7.0 Users have two choices, either do a clean install (recommended) or stay on cinnamon 5.6.8(not recommended), so the choice rests on the user.
From now onwards, there will be no specific release cycle for Liya, new versions will be released when the Creator feels its the correct time to do so.
Its recommended to update the system by doing
sudo pacman -Syu
before usage of the system, the system is configured to run out-of-the-box.
Users who have another OS and got Silent-GRUB installed shall report the bug to us, we will look into it and then solve it in the next release.
